![]() ![]() Let’s face it, no one would ever say damn, that was delicious and be dismissive of you. I’ve singlehandedly made friends from a dish I cooked. It was something I knew I was good at and learned that it was the way to alot of their hearts. ![]() Food was always that something that connected me with other people or allowed me to show them that I cared to know them because I’d cook for them. It can be hard to start meaningful friendships in new cities and towns when we’d move every few years because I knew as soon as I did, we’d have to move again. We moved around a lot while my husband was in the Air Force, which was a perpetual getting-to-know people and making friends. Secretly we all love when someone comes back to you and tells you that the recipe was amazing but yours still tasted better. next time you make those Korean BBQ Steak noodles, can you make an extra batch for me? It’s inspiring to share food with others or to give them your recipe to try and replicate and they realize their inner-chef because you shared what you loved to eat. remember when you made that potato salad that you said was your Dad’s recipe? Or OMG your Mom’s teriyaki recipe you made was so good. Sometimes the power of an amateur picture and clever caption was all it took to reel some of them in or a dish I may have brought to a potluck that someone never had before. ![]() I didn’t think anyone really paid attention except for the occasional “Yum” comment. Once I shared it on Facebook, people were wondering what I was cooking up next or if I could share my recipes or when I was is going to make that curated cookbook of things I’ve made because it was mainly just pictures plastered on Facebook or Instagram. That moment has morphed into me starting a food journal, a diary in a sense… so I could remember what I made and how it tasted or made me feel. What started as a hobby back in 2016 when I learned to cook home made ricotta at a plant nursery down the road from my home, I wanted to show others how easy it was and took pictures to document that experience. No matter who’s kitchen your’re in, you can use your food to create special moments in time! I LOVE my kitchen, it’s my absolute favorite place to be. What’s fascinating is that cooking something can be inspiring, it can bring us back to our childhood by the taste or smell of something, or it can spark new traditions or continue new versions of the old ones. and filled with different tastes by the ones who occupy the biggest or smallest spaces regardless of the shiny things in them and people who cook in them, We all cook (what we like to eat) just like me. Every time I’m in then kitchen I feel transported to another place and time! The kitchen is so personal and unique. I have entirely too many ideas to ever bring to life, am an iced-chai and coffee addict, savvy-crafter, road-tripper and love being in the kitchen because it allows me to create and show love through my food.
